RSS feeds on e-mail

by dryobates

I have few RSS feeds that I enjoy reading and some automatically generated that I need to follow. There is a log of software dedicated to read feeds, but if you have an e-mail client which fulfills your needs, then reading feeds as e-mail looks like the most obvious thing.

Some e-mail clients support reading feeds out of box. I use Mutt [1], which is only Mail User Agent. But there is rss2email [2] - a little script that fetches feeds and sends to selected email.

Making to work it together is very simple. How to use rss2email is described on “Getting started” page [3]

The only thing I had to do was to add rss2email to cron along with OfflineIMAP [4] fetching mails:

15,45 * * * * /usr/local/bin/r2e run
30 * * * * /usr/local/bin/offlineimap 2> /dev/null
